Galliford Try Case Study

Situation

As part of improvements to better transport links between Glasgow and Edinburgh, there was a requirement to upgrade the section of rail link from Airdrie to Bathgate. A key area along this route was the refurbishnment at Livingston North Rail Station and Newbridge Junction. APC planning support ensured :--

Success Factors

The main areas to give the Management Team confidence in the Project were as follows:

  1. Greater Project Management control within stringent timescales
  2. Third party engagement on deliveries, and prioritising of site works
  3. Site based personnel ensured any potential blockers, were readily addressed as they arose

Lessons Learned

Being on such a tight schedule, it was imperative to have site based planning support to ensure flexibility of schedule was utilised. It was essential that any delays were supported with alternative work arounds from the plan to assist the Construction team, without hindering progress

Having high level Key Milestones in place, gave the senior team the overarching view of the project on a regular basis, supported by underpinning detail and baseline comparisons for the Project team. It was essential to have the baseline established at an early stage to ensure overall project control within a project with little or no scope for delay
